Charles de Gaulle (born 1948)

Charles de Gaulle ( born September 25, 1948 in Dijon ) is a French lawyer and politician. He is a grandson of General Charles de Gaulle.

Biography

He is the son of Philippe de Gaulle and Henriette de Montalembert.

First, from 1971 active in the Paris Bar, he began in the 1980s to become involved in French politics. Between 1986 and 1992 he was deputy regional council in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais for the party UDF. From 1989 to 1990 he was first deputy mayor of Rueil -Malmaison in the département of Hauts -de- Seine ( Ile- de -France ). He was also a 1989 candidate for the list of Valéry Giscard d' Estaing in the European elections. In 1993 he became Member of the European Parliament by the resignation of a deputy.

In the European elections in 1994, he was elected on the list of the Mouvement pour la France (MPF ) by Philippe de Villiers. This party was particularly opposed to the introduction of the euro and against a federal Europe, which would be controlled according to their ideas, by the Commission. From 1998 to de Gaulle came ever closer to the Front National. He voted against the waiver of the immunity of Jean -Marie Le Pen MEP. In 1999, he stood at the European level for re-election, this time on the list of the FN. In 2001, he ran also on the FN list in the Paris municipal elections. In 2004 he was not re-elected.

De Gaulle is a member of the political bureau of the Front National.
