Charles E. Redman

Charles Edgar Redman ( born December 24, 1943 in Waukegan, Illinois) is an American business leaders and former diplomat who was among others, Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Life

After schooling occurred studied at the U.S. Air Force Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree there in 1966 (BS ). During his subsequent military service in the U.S. Air Force 1966-1974 he completed a degree in administrative sciences at Harvard University and graduated in 1968 with a Master of Arts (MA Government) from. During his military service he was employed not only in the Vietnam War, but was later also as a colonel Special Assistant to the Assistant Chief of Staff ( Assistant Chief of Staff ) for intelligence services of the U.S. Air Force.

After his retirement from active military service, he joined after attending the American Academy of Diplomacy in June 1974 in the diplomatic service and was initially employed at the operations center and then as a staff assistant in the Office of European Affairs of the U.S. State Department. In December 1976, he joined as a political officer at the U.S. Embassy in France, before he then was 1979-1982 deputy director of the private office of the then NATO Secretary General Joseph Luns. After a subsequent use as a political officer at the embassy in Algeria, he was in August 1984, first deputy director and then acting director of the Office of European Security and Political Affairs in the State Department.

In July 1985, he first rose to deputy Foreign Ministry spokesman on, then in October 1986 only to the deputy and finally in June 1987 as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Foreign Ministry.

Then he was from March 1989 to 1992 Ambassador to Sweden, before he was after re- use in the State Department as Special Envoy for Haiti and then to the Balkans conflict. On October 31, 1994, Redman ambassador to Germany and held that post until 17 June 1996.

After his retirement from the diplomatic service in 1996 he became senior vice president of Bechtel Corporation, the largest engineering and construction companies in the United States.
