Charles-Étienne Gudin de La Sablonnière

Charles Étienne Gudin de La Sablonnière ( born February 13, 1768 in Montargis, † August 22 1812 in Smolensk ) was a French general of the infantry.

Life

Early came Gudin de La Sablonnière as a cadet at the military school of Brienne- le -Château. There he could be characterized soon and made ​​a career. Inspired by the revolution, he soon became a partisan of Napoleon.

Under the command of General Charles Leclerc d' Ostin was Gudin de La Sablonnière member of the expedition army in Saint- Domingue ( Hispaniola ) fought 1791 against Toussaint Louverture. In the summer of 1792 returned with a separate command to France.

He fought at Pultusk (26 December 1806) and at the Battle of Eylau Prussian ( 7 / 9th February 1807 ).

In the Battle of Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ) was Gudin de La Sablonnière again severely wounded. Nevertheless, he took part at the side of Marshal Michel Ney in the Russian campaign of the Grande Armée. In the Battle of Smolensk ( 17-18. August 1812 ) he was again wounded and died several days later from his injuries. His final resting place he found on the edge of the battlefield.

His younger brother, Pierre César Gudin of Bardelières was also general of infantry. Was married Gudin de La Sablonnière with Jeanne Caroline Creutzer, a sister of General Charles Auguste Creutzer ( 1780-1832 ). His son Charles Gabriel Gudin (1798-1874) also made ​​career in the army.
