Charles Frederick Wright

Charles Frederick Wright ( May 3, 1856 in Forest Lake, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, † November 10, 1925 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1905 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Wright was the younger brother of Congressman Myron Benjamin Wright ( 1847-1894 ). He attended the public schools of his native land and from then until 1874, the Montrose Academy, also in the state of Pennsylvania. Between 1875 and 1899 he worked in various positions for the First National Bank of Susquehanna Depot. Since 1882 he was its president. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In the years 1896, 1904 and 1908, he participated as a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions, to which William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft were finally nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the congressional elections of 1898 Wright was in the 15th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James Hodge Codding on March 4, 1899. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1905 three legislative periods. Since 1903, he represented there as a successor of Marlin Edgar Olmsted the 14th district of his state. Also since 1903, he was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Department of Agriculture. In 1904 he gave up another candidacy.

Between 1911 and 1913 Charles Wright was Minister of Finance ( State Treasurer ) of his home state; in the years 1915 and 1916 he served as State Representative for the Civil Service ( Commissioner of Public Service ). Then he was again active in the banking industry. He died on November 10, 1925 in Susquehanna.
