Charles II. de Lalaing

Charles of Lalang (* 1506, † 22 November 1558 in Brussels), Count of Lalang, a hen gauer statesman and general of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V From 1520 to 1527 he was Bishop of Coria.

Life

His parents were Jacqueline de Luxembourg and Charles I. de Lalang (1466-1525), Baron of Escornaix, lord of Montigny, Santes Bracle, First Earl of Lalang. His siblings were Jacques (1500-1521), Marguerite (1508-1592) and Philip ( 1510-1555 ).

He bore the title of Baron d' Escornaix.

He was appointed on 1531 in Tournai Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

He was Count of Hoogstraten and Conseiller d' État. After some regional governments ( governor of Utrecht, governor of Luxembourg), he was from 1537 to 1549 Grand bailli, Governor and capitaine général of the County of Hainaut.

On July 6, 1553, the day when Edward VI. died, Charles V sent him along with Simon Renard and Jehan de Montmorency, to complete a marriage contract. After Philip II of Spain had married on July 25, 1554 Mary I of England, Renard remained as resident Ambassador.

Family

He married on August 30, 1520 Marguerite de Croy, Dame de Wavrin. ( 1508-1549 ). They had twelve children, only one of whom reached adulthood:

Around 1550 he married Marie van Hoorn - Montmorency († 1570). Their children were:

  • Philippine -Christine (1551-1582)
  • Emmanuel -Philibert de Lalang (1557-1590)
