Charles Poswick

Charles Marie Jean Joseph Elvire Ghislain Baron Poswick (* October 6, 1924 Limburg, Belgium, † July 28, 1994 in Zolder ) was a Belgian politician.

Biography

Poswick, who came from one of those families who held senior positions in the former Duchy of Limburg, studied post-school law and earned a doctorate in law. In addition, he holds a degree in Business Studies, and the financial sciences. He then worked as a stockbroker.

His political career began in 1965 as the candidate of the Parti de la Liberté et du Progres (PLP ) with the first election as a member of the Chamber of Deputies. In this he represented until 1991, the interests of the constituency Namur.

Already in the following year he was appointed by Prime Minister Paul Vanden Boeynants on March 19, 1966 Minister of Defence in the government and was part of this until the end of his term of office on 17 June 1968.

The secretary of defense, he held again in 1980 for a short time in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Wilfried Martens.

Later, he was initially 1984 to 1985 President of the Parliament of the French Community of Belgium and then between 1985 and 1988 President of the Parliament of the Walloon Region.
