Charlotte Blake

Charlotte M. Blake ( * May 30, 1885 in Ohio; † August 21, 1979 in Santa Monica ) was an American composer of Rags and other light music.

Life and work

Blake began her career at age 18 when she began to work in Detroit as a writer, arranger and Musikdemonstrator for the music publisher Jerome H. Remick. Her first composition " King Cupid " was released in 1903, the last 1919. A total of 35 of her compositions were published, waltzes, marches and rags. Until 1906, was absent from the publication of their compositions, most of which were published by Remick, her full first name ( was the abbreviated with a gender-neutral " C." ).

Later she lived in Holywood and also spent time working at Douglas Aircraft Company. Her works have been rediscovered by Max Morath, who recorded some of her compositions on his album The Ragtime Women.
