Charlotte (ship)

The Charlotte was a convict transporter of the First Fleet, which is the first English settlers fleet in Australia with a weight of 345 tons. It was built in 1784 the sailing ship on the Thames. The ship that sailed under the command of Thomas Gilbert, had to be hauled in the first days of the trip in the English Channel. The ship's doctor on board was John White, who later became Surgeon General of New South Wales.

The Charlotte left Portsmouth on 13 May 1787 on board eighty-eight male and twenty female prisoners, among them James Squire, James Bloodworth, James Underwood and the later famous Mary Bryant. She reached Port Jackson on 26 January 1788 from where it ended again with the aim of China on May 6 to load there on behalf of the British East India Company tea. On their return to England on 28 November 1789, the ship was sold to a company that is on the route London - Jamaica began. In November 1818 the ship in Newfoundland was lost.

  • The legacy of the Knights Templar - " The secret is in the Charlotte " - refers to this ship and theorizes that it is stranded in the Arctic Circle. The Meerschaum pipe, which is found in the cargo area, acting as a key fits into the impression in the wrong treasury - from there it goes further, however, in the right treasury. The Mystery of Charles Carroll lies in the interior of Charlotte.
