Charlotte Wessels

Johanna Charlotte Wessels ( born May 13, 1987 in Zwolle ) is a Dutch singer and songwriter. She's since 2005, lead vocalist of the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain.

Biography

First, she played clarinet in classical orchestras and big bands before they began at the age of 13 years to care for the vocals. Together with a friend, she composed songs and founded her first band with him.

At 14, she took lessons in jazz and in classical singing. She joined several local bands like To Elysium or Infernorama where she at the age of 17 years Martijn Westerholt, the former keyboardist of the symphonic metal band Within Temptation, met.

Martijn Westerholt had founded in 2002 a musical project called Delain. Charlotte Wessels decided to join this project and began lyrics for the debut album Lucidity, which was released in 2006 to write.

It was followed by three more albums as well as touring and performing at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Rock Harz, Summer Breeze or the Metal Female Voices Fest. The album, The Human Contradiction was published on 4 April 2014.
