Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band.

Band History

Delain was founded in 2002 by Martijn Westerholt, the ex - keyboardist of the metal band Within Temptation after he left them in 2001 due to an illness of the glandular fever. The founder Robert Westerholt is the brother of Martijn. After Martijn Westerholt 2002 with vocalist Anne Invernizzi, guitarist Roy van Enkhuyzen and Frank van der Meijden, bassist Martijn Willemsen and drummer Jimmy Revson and the guest George Oosthoek ( from the band Orphanage - death growling ) one consisting of four songs demo was recorded with the name Amenity, the project rested initially until 2005. the demo is now almost impossible to find. After Charlotte Wessels ( vocals) joined the band in 2005, Delain was able to conclude a contract with the label Roadrunner Records in the same year. Following the band recorded their debut album Lucidity, which ultimately appeared on 4 September 2006. For the album, they hired several well-known guest musicians: Ariën van Weesenbeek Epica (drums), as well as their former member Ad Sluijter (guitar), George Oosterhoek ( grunts ) and Guus Eikens (guitar), both former members of Orphanage, Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation (vocals), Marco Hietala from Nightwish ( bass, vocals ) and Liv Kristine of Leaves' Eyes (vocals ) and Jan Yrlund ( guitar). Published on March 10, 2007 Single extraction Frozen reached number 36 of the Dutch sales charts.

The band project consists only of Martijn Westerholt and Charlotte Wessels. However, for live performances, they are of other musicians, from 2006, initially by Ronald Landa ( grunts and guitar), Ray van Lente (guitar), Robert van der Loo (bass) and Sander Zoer (drums ) supported. Ray van Lente left the lineup in the summer of 2007. March 20 was published in 2009 April Rain, the second album of the band. In the same year Ronald Landa left the band. Successor on guitar was Ewout Pieters, who remained only until 2010 but. In the same year, Rob split from the Loo of time constraints of the band and was replaced by Otto van der Schimmelpennick Oije. The vacant post of guitarist Timo Somers was occupied in 2011. With this lineup the albums We are the others and Interlude were recorded with the participation of guest musicians. We Are The Others was published on 1 June 2012. On May 3, 2013, the fourth album Interlude was released; it contains new songs and reinterpretations of his own and other songs and six live versions and in the Limited First Edition additionally a bonus DVD. On April 4, 2014, the album The Human Contradiction appeared that among other things contains a guest post by Marco Hietala ( Nightwish ).
