Charters Towers Region

Geography

The region is located in the east of the state inland about 1070 km north- west of the capital Brisbane and approximately 360 km south of Cairns.

The largest town and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Charters Towers with about 7800 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and towns: Alabama Hill, basalt, blackjack, Breddan, Broughton, Buchanan Campaspe, Columbia, Crimea, Dotswood, Grand Secret, Greenvale, Hervey Range, Lissner, Llanarth, Millchester, Mosman Park, Paluma, Queenton, Ravenswood, Reid River, Richmond Hill, Seventy Mile, Southern Cross, The Cape, Toll, Towers Hill and Valley of Lagoons.

History

Today's Charters Towers Region was founded in 2008 from the City of Charters Towers and Dalrymple Shire.

Management

The Charters Towers Regional Council has seven members. The Mayor ( mayor) and six other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
