The airport Chengdu Shuangliu - (Chinese成都 双流 国际 机场, Pinyin Chengdu Shuangliu Guoji Jīchǎng, English: Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, IATA code CTU, ICAO code ZUUU ) is the international airport of the megacity Chengdu in southwest China. It is located 16 km southwest of downtown Chengdu Shuangliu County. He now counts with more than 31 million passengers (2012 ) and more than 240,000 annual aircraft movements to one of the ten largest airports in the country.

Airlines and destinations

The airport mainly serves the rapidly growing Chinese domestic market and has some connections to nearby Southeast Asian centers, eg to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Even European destinations served nonstop (August 2013): Air China flies so since May 2013 nonstop to Frankfurt, KLM to Amsterdam, and ( as of September 2013), British Airways to London Heathrow. The airport serves the airlines Chengdu Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Air China as base uses it as the third stroke in addition to Beijing and Shanghai.

History

After the founding in 1938 as a military airfield, the airport was in 1944 further expanded. In 1956, he became a civil airport. In 1991 added a new terminal with 17,000 m². 1994-2001, the runway was extended to 3,600 m. In 2009, added a second runway, which lies south-east, and is connected via a 1.5 km link road with the old system. As of 2009, the existing building was also built south to a new terminal building. The official opening took place on 9 August 2012. This building is then also connected to a station. With two investments, the capacity of the airport increased to about 35 million passengers per year. With the current growth this margin should be reached as early as 2014.
