Cheonmin

Cheonmin [c ʰ ənmin ] literally means "common citizens ". The word was used during the Goryeo Dynasty and Joseon Dynasty, to designate the underclass. Besides cheonmin there were two other social layers; the upper class was called yangban, and the middle class Pyeongmin. The underclass cheonmin were servants properties in all areas of society. But they are not to be understood as a slave. They were free, and some groups of them lived their lives as normal citizens Pyeongmin. Professionally, they were official and house servants, but also those who did at the time as indecent current work. How Pyeongmin they were not allowed to run for office himself, yet they had no family pedigree Jokbo ( 족보 ,族谱). Once born as cheonmin, were also his / her descendants cheonmin, and there was little opportunity to advance from a lower class to the higher, while the danger of relegation for the upper class consisted entirely.

Cheonmins were divided into two occupational groups: one belonged to the respective authority, and the other was self-employed. The official Cheonmins were seven occupational groups:
