Chicago Rockets

The Chicago Rockets were an American football team that played from 1946 to 1949 in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ). The team was in Chicago, Illinois, native and contributed the home games at Soldier Field.

Foundation

In 1944 was founded as a rival league to the National Football League, the AAFC to life. Founded as the league by a sports journalist from Chicago who could gather many interested investors in Football around. The League awarded a total of eight franchises. A franchise moved to Chicago. This city was a difficult market because the Rockets with the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals met there to strong competition. The League took in 1946 on the operation of gambling.

Achievements

The game in 1946 was chaotic for the Rockets. The team was supervised a total of five coaches. Although the team with Elroy Hirsch had an outstanding wide receiver in its ranks, it had nothing to do with the outcome of the championship. The team won only five of 14 games. 1947 took over the former managing director of the AAFC Jim Crowley as coach. He lost all ten games and was replaced by Hampton pool, still managed a victory. The next season brought the same result. It only managed a victory against the Baltimore Colts, coached by Cecil Isbell. In 1949 Ray Flaherty has been appointed as the new coach. The Rockets had been renamed the Chicago Hornets. Flaherty get four wins in 12 games. The chronically unsuccessful team presented the game operation in 1949 after the bankruptcy of an AAFC.
