China Crisis

China Crisis are an English pop rock band from Kirkby, Merseyside, which was founded in 1979 and took some hits in the 1980s in the British charts. Her most famous song is probably " Wishful Thinking", which came as a single to No. 9. China Crisis were one of the first formations in the area of the then new electronic music. Her style was romantic pop rock of the New Wave influences from different styles, jazz, progressive rock and especially of the American band Steely Dan.

Band History

In 1979 Eddie Lundon ( born June 9, 1962 guitar, vocals) and Gary Daly ( born May 10, 1962 keyboards, vocals ), two teenagers from Kirkby, the band. In early 1982, they recorded the single " African and White", which was released on the independent label Inevitable. The two founders were joined at this time bassist Gazza Johnson, drummer Gary O'Toole and as a second keyboardist Robert Lythgoe. In spring, the band signed a contract with Virgin Records, which released the debut single back in July. "African and White" was a minor hit in August 1982 and rose into the Top 50.

In November, the debut LP also came into the charts; from the album the song " Christian " was decoupled and peaked at # 12 in the singles charts. After a reshuffle ( Kevin Wilkinson replaced O'Toole, Bryan McNeill came for Lythgoe ) followed by 1983 more Top 50 singles and Top 20 LP "Working with Fire and Steel". On this there was also their biggest hit, " Wishful Thinking".

In 1985, China Crisis with guests - including as a producer Steely Dan's Walter Becker ( of synthesizer and a percussionist ) and Nick Magnus (keyboards ), Tim Renwick (guitar) and Steve Gregory ( sax ) - more singles and the LP " Flaunt the Imperfection", which peaked at # 9 of the UK album charts. After further singles and LPs that pursued into the lower regions of the charts, China Crisis broke up in 1990. Four years later, Daly and Lundon took under the band name again on a single; a year later was followed by the live album " Acoustically Yours" with re-recordings of hits and some new songs.

Wilkinson chose to commit suicide in 1999.

Gary Daly founded the band Muddyhead.

In 2007, China Crisis toured as the opening act of the band OMD
