Chinese Fire Belly Newt ( Cynops orientalis)

The Chinese Fire Belly Newt ( Cynops orientalis), also Chinese dwarf pig, is a species of the family of the Real salamanders of the genus and the fire belly newts ( Cynops ).

Features

The Chinese fire belly newts have a uniform deep black back, only rarely copies with slightly lighter skin spots before. However, these colors may change in the course of life. The belly is bright orange or red with black spots. The base of the limbs, the lower part of the tail fin and the front part of the cloaca are orange colored, while the rear part of the cloaca is always black. Unlike the related species C. cyanurus and C. chenggongensis Cynops orientalis has no orange spot behind the eye.

Dissemination

All species of the genus of the fire belly newts are widespread in China and Japan, mostly endemic to a relatively small area. The Chinese fire belly newt lives in a relatively large area in eastern China along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the adjacent provinces such as Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian. He prefers the low foothills of the mountain range between 30 and 1000 m above sea level. Here he settled the stagnant waters and feeds on mosquito larvae, daphnia, earthworms and slugs.

Attitude

Often the species is kept in terrariums, aquariums or paludariums. Your eating behavior is predatory. Also in the terrarium should take into account the predominantly aquatile life of the pig.
