Chiswick

Chiswick is a suburb of London in the south west of the city in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Chiswick is located on the half way between the center of London and the London Heathrow airport.

History

In Chiswick lived in the 18th century, the English artist William Hogarth. Particularly well known is the district for the likewise built in the 18th century Chiswick House. At this point, the Thames is the small island Chiswick Eyot. 1827, the first exhibition of the Royal Horticultural Society Garden was held in the garden of the Company in Chiswick, the forerunner of the Chelsea Flower Show. Exhibitions were there more or less regularly until 1857 instead until they were discontinued for lack of funds. The exhibition venue was not ideal in 1829 were the visitors ankle-deep in water and lost a number of shoes.
