Alan Elsdon

Alan R. Elsdon (* October 15, 1934 in Chiswick, London ) is a British trumpeter and flugelhorn player of Traditional Jazz.

Life and work

Alan Elsdon studied with Tommy McQuater trumpet and led in the early 1950s, his own Riverside Jazz Band. His professional career began in December 1954 in the band of Cy Laurie, in which he remained until the spring of 1956. During his military service he was a member of a band of the Royal Air Force and continue to Graham Stewart ( 1957-1959 ). From 1959 to 1961 he played with Terry Lightfoot, amongst others, on the side of Kid Ory and Red Allen. Elsdon then headed from 1961 to the 1980s, a separate group with which he performed, among others, with Edmond Hall, Albert Nicholas, Wingy Manone, Willie "The Lion" Smith and Howlin 'Wolf and Dionne Warwick and the Isley Brothers accompanied. From 1978 to 1985, he also belonged to Keith Nichols band Midnight Follies and in smaller formations under Nichols ' line. From the 1980s to Elson operated as a composer and teacher. In 1996 he played with Marty Grosz ( Jazz for Fun); In 1998 he participated in the album Tribute to Kid Ory with the clarinettist Brian White. With Neville Dickies Rhythmakers he was on tour in Canada, with an all-star band led by David Mills in the Middle East.
