Cho Haeil

Cho hæil ( born April 18, 1941 in China) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Cho hæil was born as Cho Hae- ryong on 18 April 1941 in China. In 1945 his family moved back to Seoul. He studied at Kyung -Hee University Korean Language and Literature. There he is now a professor of Korean literature.

He made his literary debut in 1970 with the short story Everyday Dying ( 매일 죽는 사람 ), which was in a literary contest JoongAng Ilbo the selected.

Characters in Cho Haeils stories come from all walks of life and the author tries by ordinary aspects of life to parody the injustice and irrationality in society. Among other things, in Lim Kkŏkchŏng ( 임꺽정 ) that uses elements of a historical romance, to represent the present society. Cho Haeils popular works winter woman ( 겨울 여자 ) and Uyoil ( 우 요일 (雨 曜 日) ), which were first published as a result of novels in newspapers, dealing with the human psyche. The Amendment America, which was also translated into English, is about the adventures of a man who has just finished his military service and in the brothel of his uncle, helping out in the red light district near a U.S. military base, as a bouncer. He is confronted with the local chaos of racism, murder, etc., and his own life also gets into a chaotic state.
