Cho Hunhyun

Cho Hun - hyeon ( born March 10, 1953 in Mokpo, South Korea) is a South Korean Go professional.

Cho Hun - hyeon was 9 years old, the youngest go- pro of all time. At age 11, he traveled to Japan, where at that time better conditions for the game of Go prevailed. Under his teacher Segoe Kensaku, he became one of the most promising talents in Japan.

In 1972 he came because of conscription again back to Korea, where he succeeded after initial difficulties to dominate the local go- scene. In 1975, he won his first title against the then strongest Korean players, Kim In. Until about 1990 he remained the leading player in the Korean Go, only Seo Bong Su was able to inflict some defeats. In 1981 he was awarded his doctorate for 9th Dan degree.

In 1983 he took Yi Chang -ho, who is currently considered the strongest player in the world, on as a student.

In 1988 he won the first Ing Cup, one every four years oriented international tournament whose victory is worth $ 400,000. This success made ​​him a national hero and gave the Korean Go enormous prestige that was considered until then weaker than the Japanese or the Chinese.

From the late 1980s, however, Korean young stars such as Yu Chang Hyeok or his pupil Yi Chang -ho began to make him increasingly competitive. Especially Yi Chang -ho could do him from the beginning of the 90 severe defeats. As of this time was no longer Cho, but Yi Chang -ho as the strongest player in Korea.
