Cho Se-hui

Cho Se -hui ( born August 20, 1942 in Gapyeong, Gyeong -gi ) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Cho Se -hui was born in 1942 in Gapyeong. In 1963, he studied creative writing at Sorabol College of Arts, then Korean literature at Kyung -Hee University.

In 1965 he won for his story funeral ship without sails the literary competition of the " Kyunghyang Shinmun " ( Kyunghyang newspaper ). After its debut, the author continued to work as a clerk. 1978 his short stories was published The dwarf whose twelve each other linked stories dealt with the existence needs of the industrial workers in the 70s.

For this work Cho received the 13 Dongin Literature Prize a year later. The dwarf, since its publication as a classic of Korean literary history and to date has a great impact, both readers as well as writers.

Later, Cho turned to photography and traveling through South Korea, to capture scenes and people from everyday life.

In 1990 he published White Jacket. Since 1997 he works as an editor for the socially critical magazine " Dangdae Bipyung " ( criticism of the current time ) and since 1999 at the Kyung -Hee University, where he studied.

In 2000 his photo and story collection root of silence, which contains his photo materials on the Sabuk incident from 1980 in which the police a demonstration of mine workers ended violently appeared. 24 years after its first publication in 2002 saw the dwarf its 150th printing. On this occasion published the literary magazine " Jakgasegye " ( The World of the writer ) a special issue, which was dedicated to the writer Cho Se -hui.
