Choi In-ho

Choi In -ho ( born October 17, 1945 in Seoul, † September 25, 2013 ) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Choi In -ho was born on October 17, 1945 in Seoul. He studied English Literature at Yonsei University.

In 1963, he took with his short story into the hole in the wall ( 벽 구멍 으로 ) to a literary contest of the Hankook Ilbo part and was a finalist, his story, however, was reportedly not printed, so its official debut falls to 1967, when he won the newcomer award with apprentice patient ( 견습 환자 ) in a competition Chosun Ilbo of.

His early works dealing with people during the industrialization, but he shows a satirical picture of bourgeois consumption. The mid- 1970's starts Choi In -ho to deal with the problem of alienation. So also in his famous novel Deep, blue night ( 깊고 푸른 밤 ), which is about a journey of two Koreans in the USA.

Many works by Choi In -ho were used to best sellers and some of them were as a film or television drama material. The author applies therefore also as an icon of the 70s. An example of its success is the Roman home of the Stars ( 별 들의 고향 ), who criticizes the male -oriented society of South Korea. A woman with a broken heart works in a hostess bar and enters into various relationships with men. The book became a bestseller and published in 1974 film was so popular that the name of the main character, an expression for young girls in hostess bars was.

On September 25, 2013, the writer lost the battle against salivary gland cancer.
