Chōjun Miyagi

Miyagi Chojun (Japanese宫城 长顺, born April 25, 1888 in Naha, Okinawa, † October 8, 1953 in Okinawa ) is the founder of Goju - Ryu Karate style.

Life

At the age of nine ( or eleven, where the sources do not agree ), he began training in Karate. As a teenager he became a student of Higaonna Kanryo, after whose death he traveled to Fujian in China, as it had already done Kanryo Higashionna. In China, he coached the Shaolin and the Pakua form. Through this training and experience in Miyagi -trained first system ( Naha - Te) was created with the time Miyagi's Goju - Ryu (English hard-soft style). After his return to Naha Miyagi opened his own dojo.
