Chorna River (Crimea)

Mouth of the Chorna

The Chorna (Ukrainian Чорна; Russian Чёрная / Chernaya ) is a river to the Black Sea in the south of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine.

The river has a length of 34.1 km (according to other sources 41 km) and a catchment area of 436 km ².

The Chorna runs entirely within the city of Sevastopol, which reports directly to the Ukrainian central government in Kiev, and is therefore not part of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. It rises 280 meters above sea level near the village of Rodnykiwske ( Родниківське ) to the north-western slopes of Ai-Petri in the Crimean Mountains, then flows in a northwesterly direction until it at Inkerman in the Sevastopol bay empties.

History

Riverside one named after the river battle in the Crimean War took place on 16 August 1855.
