Chris & Cosey

Chris & Cosey (since 2003 renamed Carter Tutti ) is a British band, founded in 1981 in the field of electronic pop music, with the demarcation of art music is difficult and not useful in a wide range.

History

In 1981, the British industrial band Throbbing Gristle disbanded. Two of its members, Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti (born Christine Newby Carol ), a pair were also private, signed in the same year a record deal with Rough Trade Records for a duo under the name of Chris & Cosey.

In 1982, she founded, in collaboration with Rough Trade a private label called Conspiracy International, which occasionally occurs also under the name of CTI. Here more experimental recordings were subsequently published, which promised no major commercial success, as well as collaborations with other musicians and bands.

As of 1992, it restricted due to health problems temporarily their live performances a strong and devoted themselves increasingly working in the studio. At this time, there was also a collaboration of CTI with the label World Serpent Distribution. Through this connection, created numerous publication, often collaborations with other musicians and groups.

In 1998, she ended their phase almost exclusive studio work and went increasingly on tours.

From 2000, they released two new CD on CTI - Series: The Library of Sound ( LOS) and Electronic Ambient Remixes (EAR ). In both series (to date four albums are released ) is instrumental, ambient - oriented music. The GO series is specifically the accompaniment of art exhibitions, movie trailers, etc., but is also played live at concerts. In the publications of the EAR series is earlier solo pieces of Carter Tutti or that have been remixed together. In 2003 it was renamed by Chris & Cosey in Carter Tutti. The reason given was that due to a long-term development of the current concept with which the start time was no longer identical.

2004, a reunion of Throbbing Gristle took place. Nevertheless, Carter Tutti also continue to publish their own material.

Style

Her style is as already coined by Throbbing Gristle from a mixture of musique concrète and electronic music and here by a voltage ratio of electronically generated sounds, sampling, and rhythms usually generated by a drum machine on the one hand as well as acoustic, natural elements such as vocals, cornet guitar yields other.

Over the years there has been a continuous development of the band, so that over time many musical directions in the work of Carter Tutti collection held (see also meaning).
