Chris Wood (rock musician)

Christopher Gordon Blandford Wood ( * June 24, 1944 in Birmingham, England; † July 12, 1983 in Birmingham ) was a British rock musician who was best known as a member of the band Traffic. Wood played flute and saxophone, and occasionally keyboards, and participated in the singing. He was co-author of many songs from traffic.

1968 accompanied Wood Jimi Hendrix at the recording of the album Electric Ladyland. When Steve Winwood 1969 Traffic left temporarily to take part in the supergroup Blind Faith, Wood formed, along with Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason and Mick Weaver, the band Wooden Frog. In the same year he went to the USA with Dr. John on tour, where he met the singer Jeanette Jacobs, whom he married.

As traffic beginning of the 1970s, rejoined, and Wood was there. After re- dissolution of the band in 1975 Wood played in several projects of other groups and artists, including John Martyn and the Small Faces. During this time he was struggling with serious drug and alcohol problems.

Chris Wood died in 1983 during the recording of his solo album Vulcan from the effects of pneumonia.
