Christian Burchard

Christian Burchard ( born May 17, 1946 in Hof, Bavaria ) is a German musician and composer. He plays vibraphone, drums, santur and organ.

Burchard initially studied classical piano lessons before switching to trombone, only to discover the jazz and the vibraphone. He was initially active as a jazz musician in the 1960s, founded the Contemporary Trio with Dieter Serfas and Edgar Hoffmann and toured with Mal Waldron. In 1969 he moved to drums and Edgar Hoffmann founded with the merger embryo group, with which he played mostly. Occasionally he also appeared with Missus Beastly and Checkpoint Charlie. He is considered one of the pioneers of World Music in Europe. In 2008 he received with his band embryo of the German World Music Award Ruth at the TFF Rudolstadt. He was traveling with Okay Temiz, Arto Tuncboyaciyan and Ramesh Shotham as ethnic leaders.
