Christian Wilberg
Christian Wilberg ( born November 20, 1839 in Mountain Havel, † June 3, 1882 in Paris) was a German painter.
Life
Wilberg was there until 1861 worked as a house painter, then entered the studio of the landscape painter Eduard Pape in Berlin, after one and a half years in the the decorative painter Paul Gropius there, where he notably the study of perspective and architecture devoted himself, and trained since 1870 Oswald Achenbach in Dusseldorf, on study trips in Northern Germany and by a two-year stay in Italy for architectural and landscape painter.
He settled in Berlin, where he quickly ( St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Cappella Palatina in Palermo) went through a series of interior views of Italian churches a name. In the reproduction of architectural details, marble, stones and gold mosaics, he developed a huge coloristic Championship, which was also reflected in the effective lighting. Among his landscapes and architectural views are the most outstanding: Roman countryside and the grotto of Egeria Park solitude, Roman Forum, Temple of Juno at Girgenti in Sicily, view of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, memento mori for a motive from the Sabine Mountains ( in the Dresden Gallery ) and Villa Mondragone in Frascati ( in the National Gallery in Berlin ). In 1879 he made a trip to Pergamon, by which it except numerous studies the motives of the paintings: brought views of the Acropolis and view of the Basilica to Pergamum. A special skill he possessed for the picturesque antique reproduction architectural monuments and neighborhoods (one cycle of Roman landscapes with architecture in the Café Bauer in Berlin ). Wilberg has also fine tuned, poetically summed up watercolors (views of Potsdam and the surrounding area ) painted. He died on a trip June 3, 1882 in Paris.
