Christine Humphreys

Christine Mary Humphreys, Baroness Humphreys ( born May 26, 1947) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats. Since September 2013, it is a life peer member of the House of Lords.

Life

Humphreys comes from Wales. She worked as an English teacher at a secondary grammar school ( Welsh -medium secondary school ) in Penrhyn Bay. There, she was Head of the Department of Vocational Education ( Head of Vocational Education ).

Her political career began in local politics. She was member of the Council ( Councillor ) of the Colwyn Borough Council, the Municipal Council of Colwyn, and vice-chairman ( vice -chair ) in Wales Joint Education Committee. In 1999, she appeared in the Conwy constituency as a candidate of the Liberal Democrats for the election of the Welsh Assembly, but was defeated Gareth Jones ( Plaid Cymru ). However, they drew on the national list for the electoral district of North Wales in the Welsh Assembly. Humphreys was one of the Welsh Assembly from May 1999 to March 2001 as deputy to. In March 2001, she laid down her mandate for health reasons. Her successor in the Welsh Assembly was Eleanor Burnham.

In November 2007 she was elected President of the Welsh Liberal Democrats. She is currently (as of February 2014) Councillor ( Councillor ) of Llanrwst Town Council, Conwy Valley, North Wales, and there also Deputy Mayor ( Deputy Mayor ).

On August 1, 2013 it was announced that Humphreys was appointed Life Peer and should be for the Liberal Democrats member of the House of Lords. She was appointed as a " working peer ". On September 18, 2013, it was formally brought to life peer; it bears the title Baroness Humphreys, of Llanrwst in the County of Conwy.
