Christopher Chessun

Christopher Thomas James Chessun (* August 5, 1956 in London ) is a British Anglican clergyman. He's since January 2011, Bishop of Southwark the Church of England. The Diocese of Southwark is located in the Province of Canterbury, covering the southern part of Greater London and the eastern part of Surrey.

Chessun studied at University College, Oxford, and was ordained as a priest in 1984. After two jobs as a curate, a post as chaplain to the London St Paul 's Cathedral and two other church offices in the London area, he was ordained Bishop of Woolwich in 2005. His appointment as Bishop of Southwark has been confirmed in the Church of St Mary-le -Bow on 17 January 2011 after which he was employed on March 6, 2011 in the Southwark Cathedral, succeeding Bishop Tom Butler.

In spring 2012 there was a controversy when he in his diocese appointed seven liberal Catholic priests and some prominent members of the clergy then called for his resignation.
