Chrysler by Chrysler

Chrysler CH Sedan

The Chrysler by Chrysler is a luxury car that was produced from 1971 to 1976 by Chrysler Australia. ( On the car just the name Chrysler was reading without further model name. )

CH Series

The first Chrysler by Chrysler CH Series was introduced in November 1971 as a successor to the Chrysler VIP and competed with the Ford Fairlane and Holden Statesman in the market for Australian luxury automobiles. There was a 4-door sedan and 2- door hardtop coupe. The Chrysler was based on the VH Valiant, where he had built on the chassis of the hardtop coupe. The wheelbase of the Chrysler corresponded with 2921 mm of the Valiant hardtop coupes, 102 mm longer than that of the Valiant sedan. Also, the Chrysler differed in appearance considerably from Valiant; he had a front with twin headlamps, a radiator grille with chrome frame and rear lights that attacked the vehicle corners. The front view remembered significantly to the 1971 U.S. model Dodge Coronet. A long list of standard equipment lifted the Chrysler additionally from the Valiant from: front disc brakes, power steering, radio with push buttons and electrically retractable antenna, carpet in the trunk, tinted side windows with electric windows, lights on the door bottoms and reading lights for the rear seat passengers. Special care is also related to the reduction of NVH through a sound-absorbing material.

The car was powered as standard by a Chrysler Hemi six-cylinder in-line engine with 4343 cc capacity. On request, instead, a V8 engine from Australian production with 5899 cc displacement could be ordered. In any case, a three-stage automatic transmission TorqueFlite from USA was used.

CJ series

A revised version of the Chrysler series CJ, was released in May 1973, one month after the VJ Valiant. The design changes at Chrysler were minimal. The CJ Chrysler was built only as a 4-door sedan, while the 2-door hardtop coupe was still delivered as CH Chrysler.

Series CK

A revised CK Chrysler came together with the VK Valiant out in October 1975. Again, the changes were minor. The V8 engine was tuned for higher performance and more economical use, but on 1 July 1976 had this engine yet due to stricter emissions standards by a V8 engine with 5211 cc capacity to be replaced.

In October 1976, the production of CK Chrysler was set as the CL series from Valiant and Regal was introduced. This model range included a Chrysler Regal SE Sedan ( Saloon), which replaced the Chrysler in the end, although he did not had the longer wheelbase and better facilities of Chrysler.
