Clara's Secret (Original Title: Clara 's Heart ) is an American film drama from 1988 was directed by Robert Mulligan, the screenplay was written by Mark Medoff based on a novel by Joseph Olshan. . The main role was played by Whoopi Goldberg.
Action
Who lives in Baltimore Leona Hart loses her little daughter. It represents the African-American Clara Mayfield as a housekeeper, who she met in Jamaica. Clara cares about Leona's son David, who is an outsider, as to her own son. The marriage of Leona and Bill deep trouble, move to the divorce Leona, David and Clara in the country. David sees his father on the weekends, sometimes take Clara and he trips to Baltimore.
Clara throws Leona frequently open, they would perceive their role as a mother is not good enough. You can also not be intimidated by Bill when she meddles in the conversations of the former spouses about David 's future.
Clara's past hides a secret to uncover it digs David Claras things through. Clara gets angry, but something told later that they even had a son. This raped at the age of 15 years and a girl. When Clara confronted him, he raped also own mother and committed suicide.
Leona gets to know a new partner who wants to move to California. David wants to live with his father in Baltimore to stay near Clara. Clara realizes that she is too much for him to become a surrogate mother, she announces and find a new job in a hospital.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times 21 October 1988, the film would be a bad movie with a great character which he meant the character of Clara Mayfield. He described the appearance of Whoopi Goldberg as excellent ( magnificent ).

Neil Patrick Harris was nominated in 1989 for the Film Awards Golden Globe and a Young Artist Award. The film was also for Best Family Film - Drama nominated for the Young Artist Award.
