Claude Corbineau

Claude Louis Constant Esprit Juvenal Corbineau Gabriel ( born March 7, 1772 in Laval, † February 8, 1807 at Prussian Eylau ) was a French cavalry general.

Life

Corbineau was the eldest son of the officer Jean -Charles Corbineau, the generals Jean -Baptiste (1776-1848) and Hercule Corbineau (1780-1823) are his brothers. Already at the beginning of their military career to the Three Brothers " Les trois Horace " began after the mythical triplets from the Roman family of the Horatii call and this name remained them of their lives.

With 16 years Corbineau joined the army in 1788 and soon was able to prove his valor in the revolutionary wars. There followed several operations and in January 1792, he came with the rank of aide- de-camp to the staff of General Louis -Auguste Juvenal des Ursins d' Harville.

Under the leadership of General Charles -François Dumouriez, he fought at Wattignies ( 15-16. October 1793 ) and was wounded several times.

After his return to active duty Corbineau resulted in the Sambre and Meuse army his own command. The staff of General Lazare Hoche, he assumed additional administrative tasks in the rank of Major. Under the leadership of Hoche he took in 1796 and Napoleon's Irish expedition part. The Society of United Irishmen with Theobald Wolfe Tone should be supported in their struggle for independence against the British, but this campaign failed completely.

Under General Jean -Victor Moreau Corbineau fought at Hohenlinden (3 December 1800) and returned to the Peace of Luneville (9 February 1801) home.

After subsequent promotions Corbineau was admitted to the bar of Napoleon and fought in the Battle of Eylau Prussian ( February 7/8 1807). He fell at the end of the fighting and found his final resting place on the edge of the battlefield.

  • His name is found on the eastern pillar ( column 16 ) of the Arc de Triomphe on Place Charles -de- Gaulle ( Paris).
  • The sculptor Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire created by Corbineau a bust for the Battle Gallery ( Prince Wing) in the Palace of Versailles.
  • The Rue Corbineau in the 18th arrondissement of Paris is named after him.
  • The Rue Corbineau in Marchiennes was named after him and his two brothers.
