Clinical neuropsychology

The Clinical Neuropsychology is the science of behavior and experience, based on impairment-based states and changes of the central nervous system and resulting functional deficits, activity disturbances and constraints of participation in areas of life.

The practical implementation of clinical neuropsychology is the diagnosis of the deficiencies and limitations, and on this basis, in the development and implementation of therapeutic methods. In therapy, the severity of the deficit is reduced or the person allows a better adaptation to their living environment.

The neuropsychological assessment is often via many different standardized test methods that should be constructed at least for the most important quality criteria for psychological tests validity, reliability and objectivity.

November 24, 2011 decided in Germany, the Federal Joint Committee of the accredited Physicians ' associations, the German Hospital Federation and the Central Federal Association of Health Insurance that patients with acquired organic brain diseases - for example after a traumatic brain injury or a stroke - the future an outpatient neuropsychological therapy as provided by statutory health insurance can claim.

Neuropsychological syndromes

  • Cerebral visual disturbances ( blurred vision rehabilitation )
  • Disorders of spatial services
  • Disorders of attention and consciousness
  • Neglect ( Extinkt )
  • Learning and memory disorders
  • Frontal syndrome
  • Brain organic brain syndrome
  • Aphasia
  • Apraxia
  • Anosognosia, agnosia ( Objektagnosie )
  • Conduction disturbances / Diskonnektionssyndrome: Under this name a number of neuropsychological syndromes is described that are not based on dysfunction in cortical projection or association fields themselves, but are due to the interruption of connections between such centers. Also, apraxia, aphasia, agnosia and pure alexia can be traced back to such disturbances. Generally, an attempt is made to explain many neuropsychological syndromes by a line fault.
  • Dementia syndromes
  • Pusher symptoms ( postural hemineglect, spatial perceptual based fault)
  • Disorientation
  • Dysexekutives syndrome - disturbances in the planning, and problem solving ( also frontal syndrome )
