Clio

Clio or Kleio ( gr Κλειώ: " the Rühmerin " from κλεῖν: praise, praise ) is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology. She is the muse of epic poetry and history. In some mythological writings but it is also known as a muse of the Lyraspiels.

Like all the muses Clio is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne. Clio had with Pierus, the king of Macedon, ( in other sources also Oebalus of Sparta or Amyklas ) their son Hyacinth. Some sources make Klio also the mother of Hymen. Others tell of her as the mother of Linus by Argos.

The attributes of Clio are the papyrus scroll and a pen. Clio is the patron saint of historians.
