Clive Langer

The late 1970s, Langer was a member of the settled between pub rock and punk band Deaf School. In the studio mixing desk he made himself a name in the 1980s, primarily as a producer of Madness, Ex - Deaf school singer Bette Bright and other Stiff Records and Radar-/F-Beat-Records-Künstler. Almost always Langer had this Alan Winstanley to the partner; as producer duo they were known under the abbreviation Clanger / Winstanley. Together they produced later artists such as Elvis Costello, Morrissey, Bush, They Might Be Giants, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, Sandie Shaw, or even for David Bowie & Mick Jagger the number -one hit "Dancing in the Street" (1985 ).

Published in 1980, long under the band name Clive Langer & the Boxes Album Splash ( with James Eller, bass, Martin Hughes, drums, and Ben Barson, an ex - Deaf school buddy and brother of Madness keyboardist Mike Barson, on keyboards ); a single release from the album was the Womack / Womack standard It's All Over Now.

Together with Elvis Costello Langer wrote the anti - Falklands War song " Shipbuilding ", a hit that went with two different artists in the UK charts: Robert Wyatt ( No. 35, 1983) and Tasmin Archer ( number 40, 1994).
