Club Universitario de Deportes

Universitario de Deportes is a football club based in Lima, Peru. The club was founded in 1924 and plays in the Peruvian football league, the Primera División Peruana. He plays since 2000 in the Estadio Monumental, the largest football stadium in Peru.

Universitario de Deportes is one of the most successful football clubs in Peru. He has 25 - times won the Peruvian championship - more than any other national association.

History

The football club was founded on August 7, 1924 as Federación Universitaria by students of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima. The first teams of Universitaria been compiled from university students.

The National Committee of Sports (El Comité Nacional de Deportes ), at that time the highest sports committee of Peru, recognized the club. The first three years after its inception, the club participated only in friendly matches with other teams. In 1928, the Federación Peruana de Fútbol it was taken up in the first division, without other sporting qualifications would have been necessary. The following year, the team won their first tournament and was Peruvian champion. In 1931 the club changed its name to Universitario de Deportes.
