Colin Steele

Colin Steele ( born February 17, 1968) is a Scottish jazz trumpeter.

Steele plays trumpet since 1980. Since his nineteenth year, he performed with the jazz combo John Rae Collective. In 1987 he worked with the pop band Hue and Cry; then remained at two years in France and studied from 1991 to 1993 in London Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During this time he worked with Clark Tracey, Iain Ballamy and Ronny Jordan. After two years he spent in Rome, he returned to Scotland in 1996. In the late 1990s he worked in the band of drummer Tom Bancroft. He also toured with The Bad Plus, Joe Lovano, Jon Christensen, Arild Andersen, Geri Allen and Steve Slagle. Published in 2000 a first album under his own name ( Twilight Dreams ) on the label Caber that involved saxophonist Julian Argüelles, pianist Dave Milligan, bassist Brian Shiels and drummer John Rae. 2002 was The Journey Home, with the Miles Davis devoted Title Lament for Miles. In October 2004, Steele took on the ACT label album Through The Waves. Steele integrated into his music influences of Latin music, the radio and the Scottish folk music, which he mixes with elements of post-bop.
