Tom Bancroft

Tom Bancroft ( born January 29, 1967 in London ) is an English jazz drummer.

Life and work

Bancroft studied social and political sciences and medicine at Cambridge University. This was followed up in 1992 to study music at McGill University in Montreal.

After he had already occurred as a child with his father and his twin brother, the jazz saxophonist Phil Bancroft, he founded in 1994 with his brother and Kevin Mackenzie, the trio ABB, with whom he recorded several albums. In addition, he also founded an own band, the Tom Bancroft Orchestra (later Orchestro Interrupto ), with whom he toured the United Kingdom (2004 with the American pianist Geri Allen), appeared on the radio and the album Pieology recorded.

As a sideman, Bancroft worked, inter alia, with Sun Ra, Tommy Smith, Martyn Bennet, Mungo Dunnett, Steve Mannion, Sheila Jordan, Julian Argüelles, Charlie MacKerron, Alyth MacCormack, Charlie Mariano, Emil Viklický and Laura MacDonald together.

Bancroft composed pieces for radio, television and theater as well as a children's musical and organized music events such as Clandemonium, Europhonium, Kidsamonium and the multi- story parking karma. He is married to singer Gina Rae.
