Collect

An Oration (from the Latin orare, speak, preach, preach, pray - os, the mouth ) is an embossed shape of a prayer in the Christian liturgy.

Origin

Prayers in Christian worship are in written form since 7 / 8 Handed century, orally, they should at least to the 4/5 Century decline. They are characterized by a minimalist and classic form of clear conciseness and memorability that is based on long of traditional Latin -Roman rhetoric.

Form

This full form is not always persevered. Many prayers go of addressing God directly through prayer to please.

In the liturgy after the prayer invitation follows a prayer break: "In a short common silence everyone should reflect on God's presence and form his own prayer in your heart. " The Oration almost always addressed to God the Father. In the address to God follows the laudatory mention of a saving act of God or property. On feast and memorial days here the hard content is raised. The final conclusion in the form of a doxology may be longer or shorter. She always speaks of Jesus Christ as a mediator of prayer, often the Holy Spirit is called ( in Sancti Spiritus unitate, in the unity of the Holy Spirit ). With the final " Amen" affirms the entire community prayer. Although the prayers are sung or spoken by the head of the liturgy, they have a dialogical structure with the inclusion of the common silence and the acclamation Amen.

Prayers in worship

Holy Mass and Communion

The prayers are part of the Proper of the changing parts of the service, and direct their subject from the church year. For all Sundays, hard and observances are fixed prayers provided as well for many days in the " embossed times" ( see church year). For other days and occasions, there are choices.

The presentation of the prayers in the Holy Mass are like the Eucharistic Prayer as an official prayer ( " Präsidialgebet " or " head of prayer " ) the principal celebrant reserved. The official prayers are standing with arms outstretched sung or spoken ( in orante-pose ).

In the Holy Mass, three prayers are at the end of a section of the liturgy, respectively:

  • The daily prayer concludes the opening section, followed by the Liturgy of the Word. Because the daily prayer collects the silent prayers of the celebrants ( colligere of latin, collect ) and bundles, it also means Collecta or offering prayer (not to be confused with the collection, the collection of money in worship ).
  • The Prayer over the Gifts ( Oratio super oblata, prayer over the offerings ) adopt the preparation of the gifts of bread and wine, and leads into the Eucharistic Prayer, beginning with the Preface. The previous name was " Still prayer " or " Secreta " because the priest prayed silently or - in an earlier interpretation of the term - because it is the " Oratio super ( oblata ) secreta ", " the prayer of the separate gifts" of bread and wine was, namely the selected from the totality of the donated gifts for the Eucharist.
  • Prayer after Communion ( Postcommunio, also closing prayer ) and before the dismissal rite, with the blessing and mission summarizes the gratitude for the Eucharist received together with the request, " that the celebration of the mystery bear fruit. "

The intercessions also be completed by a liturgist Oration. In the early church Fürbittpraxis the Great Intercessions (Latin orationes sollemnes ) followed satisfy the individual needs after a moment of silence each have their own Oration. This form is now only preserved in the Celebration of the Passion and death of Christ on Good Friday.

The agenda of the evangelical worship looks almost always in front of an Oration as daily prayers, the prayers end with a final Oration. If the Lord's Supper donated is often an appropriate prayer between the preparation of the gifts and the Sanctus.

Liturgy of the Hours and other services

The times of prayer Liturgy of the Hours will be concluded by an Oration. In the Community Choir prayer she speaks of Hebdomadar (without Let us pray ). The Oration in Matins, Lauds and Vespers is identical to the Opening Prayer of the Mass.

After altkirchlicher tradition prayers had their place each time after a reading and the following responsorial psalm -like vigil in church services. This structure has been preserved in the great prayers on Good Friday and the Easter Vigil Liturgy of the Word.

Also word of God Celebration, litanies, blessings and consecrations which culminate in an Oration, also prayers as the angel of the Lord or the Te Deum. In the sacramental blessing following the Tantum ergo than Oration the opening prayer of the feast of Corpus Christi. The Oration is it preceded by a verse.
