Collective Consciousness Society

The Collective Consciousness Society, most CCS abbreviated, was a pure studio big band, which was founded in 1970 by Alexis Korner.

History

Important members were beside Korner Danish singer Peter Thorup and the composer John Cameron, who played piano. Producer was Mickie Most. The rhythm section consisted of Alan Parker on guitar, Spike Heatley on upright bass and Herbie Flowers on bass, Tony Carr and Barry Morgan on drums and Bill Le Sage as a percussionist. Other members were the brass Harry Beckett, Henry Lowther, Kenny Wheeler, Les Condon, Greg Bowen, Don Lusher and Bill Geldard and saxophonist Ronnie Ross, Harold McNair, Danny Moss, Peter King, Tony Coe and Ray Warleigh.

In the UK RAK label, they released their first hit single in 1970, an instrumental version of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, which was used for the English TV show " Top of the Pops " as the title theme.

Although it was a pure studio project, it could be the live musicians Alexis Korner not let you withdraw to play live with this lineup. Therefore, there was in 1971 a gig at the Marquee Club, which was also recorded, but until today is unpublished.

After a few charts successes, such as walking and Tap Turns on the Water, and the recording of three LPs whose entire material was recorded in just two sessions, the group dissolved in 1973 again.

After CCS Korner and Thorup together founded the band Snape, with whom she released two albums.
