Columbus Tubing
Columbus Tubi is one of the world's oldest manufacturers of steel pipes for the Fahrradrahmenbau. The company from Caleppio di SETTALA in Milan presents since 1919 tube sets forth for frame construction. In addition to Reynolds, a British manufacturer, Columbus was the world's leading manufacturer of steel tubes for bicycle frames. Today the company is still one of the foremost manufacturer of bicycle frame tubes and frame or components made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic ( CFRP, "Carbon" ). Columbus Tubi belongs to Gruppo SPA, inter alia, the also the component manufacturer Cinelli is connected.
Symbol of the company is the dove, as " Columba " is the Latin word for dove.
History
Columbus was founded in 1919 by Angelo Luigi Colombo. Colombo presented already at this time tubes for well-known bicycle manufacturers. From 1931 the company welded and seamless tubes for the production of bicycles, motorcycles, cars and airplanes produced. In the thirties the first time special tubes for bicycles were manufactured. They were known under the name Aelle, Tenax and Columbus. In 1977, the bicycle business of the company under the leadership of AL Columbus' youngest son, Antonio Colombo independent and since then has her tubes made of aluminum, steel and CFRP for the bicycle industry.
German General Importer is the company Koehn from Göttingen. It provides Columbus Columbus tubes and frame components for the German market.
Product lines
Steel tubes for the frames were delivered in different qualities: GARA earlier today niobium, Nivacrom and XCR. Today the company CARBON XLR8R PLUS offers from KFK.
Most steels have been used from the 41xx family (Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE ) ). Said alloy consisting of the elements of iron, carbon, chromium, and molybdenum, resulting in mostly identifying moly steel (also CrMo, CRMO, CR MOLY etc.).
