Silvio Martinello

Silvio Martinello ( born January 19, 1963 in Padua ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

Martinello 1986 professional racer. He started as a street rider with small victories in the Tour de France and Giro d' Italia, but primarily drove on the track.

At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Martinello won the gold medal in the points race, four years later in Sydney, together with Marco Villa the bronze medal in the two - team driving. Overall, he won among others four world titles, eleven Italian national title and 28 six-day victories, together with villa or other prominent riders such as Rolf Aldag, Erik Zabel and Etienne De Wilde.

2004 saw Martinello back from active cycling. Since then, he runs a fitness club in Selvazzano Dentro near Padua and organized bicycle race itself, as in 2008, the first time the six- day race of Milan.

His son is the cyclist Nicolò Martinello
