Gerald Mortag

Gerald Mortag ( born November 8, 1958 in Gera ) is a former German cyclist and current coach of the Thuringian Cycling Federation.

Career

As a racing cyclist, he was for the GDR three times world champion in the 4000 -meter Team Pursuit ( 1977, 1978, 1979). At the 1980 Summer Olympics he won the silver medal in the same discipline with Uwe Unterwalder, Volker Winkler and Matthias Wiegand, for which he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit. He also won with the SG bismuth Gera four DDR Champion title: 1977 and 1980 in the two tracking, 1982 in Team Pursuit and 1983 in the individual pursuit.

In 1987 he received his diploma at the coach DHfK Leipzig. By 2009, he was sports director of the Thüringer Energie Team together with Jens Lang. He is Chairman of the Sponsorship Cycling Gera eV as well as coaches and base manager SSV Gera 1990.
