Manfred Klieme

Manfred Klieme ( born February 3, 1936 in Berlin ) is a former racing cyclist from East Germany. In 1960, he won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit.

Sports career

Klieme won in 1955 with the four of SG Dynamo Karl- Marx-Stadt DDR his first championship title in the team pursuit. Before the season 1956 Klieme joined the SC Dynamo Berlin, where he trained under Carly Lorenz. His second GDR Champion title won Klieme 1959, when the Dynamo foursome with Peter Gröning, Manfred Klieme, Rolf Nitzsche and Lothar Stäber won the title against four of the SC rotation Leipzig. 1960 no East German Championship was held in the quad, the Dynamo foursome with Bernd Barleben, Peter Gröning, Manfred Klieme and Siegfried Köhler qualified instead to inter-German duel for the all-German team. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, the four Berlin reached the final and subject there to the Italian foursome.

1961 moved Klieme with his teammates for the SC unit in Berlin, who in turn was to become the 1963 TSC Berlin. 1961 and 1962 won Barleben, Klieme, coalfish and Wolfgang Schmelzer together in the GDR championships in the team pursuit. Köhler and smelters also won in 1961 in a two - team driving before Barleben and Klieme 1962 won Barleben and Klieme. 1964 won Manfred Klieme in continuous driving his last East German champion.

Klieme was a trained radio mechanic and worked at VEB Stern - Radio Berlin.
