Commission des sciences et des arts

Commission des sciences et arts there was a group of experts, which called Napoleon Bonaparte on behalf of the Board with effect from March 16, 1798 to life.

This commission consisted of 167 professionals from all sorts of fields (scientists, artists, engineers, writers, etc. ) and should accompany Napoleon on his Egyptian expedition. Up to six all traveled to Egypt and then were also involved in the formation of the Description de l' Égypte.

Each of these professionals had a detailed order and was quite free in its execution. Administratively, this " Commission" more of a " Corps " and was run as a permanently integrated part of the French invading army.

Some of these scientists were later members of the Institut d' Égypte in Cairo.
