Gaspard de Chabrol

Gilbert Joseph Gaspard de Chabrol de Volvic ( born September 25, 1773 in Riom, † April 30, 1843 in Paris) was a French civil servant. He was employed in 1812 by Napoleon Bonaparte as prefect of the department of Seine and remained in the post until 1833.

Chabrol studied engineering and received his PhD in 1794 in the tray. During his tenure, he took care of in Paris in particular to the paving of many roads and boulevards, the construction of sidewalks and the progressive extension of municipal street lighting.

In the municipality of Volvic, whose name he bore, he created and funded a still existing school of architecture and sculpture. Between 1820 and 1821 he organized in Paris the first two courses to adult education.

1822 a newly created street was named after him in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
