Kinshasa ( Lingala: Kinsásá ) is indeed capital, but is administratively equivalent to the provinces and is administered by a governor. It is divided into municipalities ( communes), which are each headed by a president appointed by a decree from the mayor. The largest municipality by area is 7948.80 square kilometers with Maluku ( proportion of the total 79.8 percent). The smallest commune is Kintambo with 2.72 square kilometers (0.03 percent). The highest number of residents with Kimbanseke 946 372 ( share of total population 13.5 percent). The lowest population has the " government district " Gombe (also La Gombe ) with 32 373 inhabitants ( 0.5 percent). The municipality with the highest population density is Bumbu with 62 120 inhabitants per square kilometer. The lowest density has Maluku with 23 inhabitants per square kilometer.
