Continental Celtic languages
As mainland Celtic languages originally spoken on the European mainland part of the Celtic languages is called. Linguistics used here also the concept of continental Celtic languages . All mainland Celtic languages are extinct.
Known are five of mainland Celtic languages whose names are all artifacts of modern times, handed down in more or less extensive fragments:
- Gaul in France, Northern Italy, Switzerland, and possibly West Germany
- Gala table in western Turkey
- Lepontic in Upper Italy
- Celtiberian on the Iberian Peninsula
- Norisch in Austria
With high probability there was before and around the time of the European continent other Celtic languages and dialects.
The Breton is not a mainland Celtic language, since it was brought about in the 4th century by emigrants from southern Britain to Northern France.
