Continental Celtic languages

As mainland Celtic languages ​​originally spoken on the European mainland part of the Celtic languages ​​is called. Linguistics used here also the concept of continental Celtic languages ​​. All mainland Celtic languages ​​are extinct.

Known are five of mainland Celtic languages ​​whose names are all artifacts of modern times, handed down in more or less extensive fragments:

The Breton is not a mainland Celtic language, since it was brought about in the 4th century by emigrants from southern Britain to Northern France.
