Coquihalla River

The Coquihalla River is a river in the Cascade Range in the south of the province of British Columbia, Canada, which flows into the Fraser River at Hope.

The name is derived from the Halkomelem; the expression Kw'ikw'iya: la stands for knaus engined container and refers to a legend of the Sto: Lo, standing with a rock in the river bed near the mouth in context. After this life under this rock the Skw'exweq - the underwater people - who steal the fishermen who caught salmon by spear and left only to fishermen, which they are well-disposed towards their prey.

The most important tributary of the Coquihalla River is the Sumallo River, which flows into the Coquihalla River in the Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park.

The British Columbia Highway 5 runs from Hope to Coquihalla Pass mainly in the valley of the Coquihalla River.
